What does a volunteer firefighter look like?
Maybe it looks like YOU.
“Over the years I've had the privilege of helping countless members of our community in a moment of need - ranging from a puppy stuck between two boulders to trying to keep a 5-month-old baby alive. I've fought house fires and forest fires. I've worn a hot and smelly hazmat suit and white gloves at a funeral. I've driven an ambulance in a snowstorm and a fire engine to a school for kids to gawk at. The fire service has made me a better person, and has given me an extra family - a cadre of trained, professional, driven, selfless brothers and sisters that I know I can rely upon should a moment of need come for me.” - L. Fabbri, Firefighter/EMT, age 48

“Being a member of ECFD has meant being a part of a family, being a friend and being someone that the community can count on. ECFD has trained and continues to train me on how the fire service correlates to being an active member in society.” - D. Haight, Firefighter/Paramedic, age 43
As a firefighter and EMS provider, you will obtain training and certifications that allows you to respond to all emergency calls including structural fires, wildland fires, emergency medical situations, motor vehicle extrications, rope rescue operations, and hazardous material incidents.
“I love being the first person on scene where one of my neighbors is in desperate need of help, and I’m the one who can provide it… But when it really comes down to it, I mostly love the many friends that I have made over the past eleven years. Be them my fellow fire and EMS friends or the hundreds of members of the Conifer community that I’ve met over the years who often recognize me and say hello on the street or at a local restaurant.” - L. Hauser, Firefighter/EMT, age 65
Do you already have your EMT or Paramedic certificate? Are you interested in medical care but not firefighting? Consider applying as an EMS provider, where you will respond to a variety of emergency medical calls and provide patient care and transport. Some of our members start as “EMS only” and later decide to move on to firefighter training as well.
“Most of the friends that I have in the community I have met through my involvement in the fire department. The second family that you are adopted into is quite extensive, with opportunities to learn from each individual on a daily basis.” - T. Cypher, Firefighter, age 29
Not ready to put on bunker gear but still want to support the fire department? We need you, too! Our Fire CORP/Support team supports fire department operations in various ways, whether it is helping provide meals and support for firefighters working extended scene times, training the community on fire awareness, or bringing your unique talents to help our administration run smoothly, there may be a job for you.
